Emily Townsend is a part-time physics instructor and the lab manager for the physics labs at Pacific.
She is currently teaching Workshop Physics with Dr. Brosing, and labs for Introductory Physics, and Physics of Everyday Phenomena.
She is completing her PhD at Oregon State University in theoretical solid state physics.
Her thesis research uses quantum field theory to describe heavy fermion superconductors.
She was attracted to Pacific by the physics department's commitment to quality teaching and
its embrace of innovative, engaging teaching methods such as Workshop Physics. Her previous
teaching work included development of a course to help students transition from mathematics
course to those in physical sciences at Oregon State University. She also worked with
the Paradigms
in Physics
upper-division undergraduate curriculum reform project.
