Exam 1

The exam will consist of a lab activity and a few written problems. You will have 1 1/2 hrs to complete it. In the lab activity you will be asked to wire up a circuit, make basic measurements, and record your observations. You may be asked to make some simple calculations to determine component values, of RC for a filter for example. You should be comfortable using the breadboards to wire up circuits, using the function generator and power supplies to run the circuit, and using the oscilloscope to measure.

The written problems will be drawn from the design problems outlined in the Electronics Design Review handout (eg. filter circuits, emitter-follower transistor, common emitter amplifier, and op amp circuit.) Also, you should know how to describe the action of capacitors and inductors in circuits based on their limiting behavior at low and high frequencies, and you should be able to calculate complex impedances and use them to find expressions for the (complex) gain.

You may find these transistor questions helpful for reviewing.
