Dr. Juliet Brosing grew up in the redwoods of San Mateo County in California, graduating from Pescadero High School with 25 in her graduating class. She did her BS in Physics at Humboldt State University, and her MS in Physics at Florida State University.

Dr. Brosing received her PhD in Physics from University of British Columbia in 1983. Her thesis was in the field of radiation biophysics. She did work at the British Columbia Cancer Center for her PhD research. She also worked at TRIUMF, the Tri-Meson Facility at the University. After completing her PhD she went to Rochester NY to do a 2 year post-doc at the Rochester Cancer Center.

When leaving British Columbia she and her husband purchased a school bus to travel/live in for their many cross country trips.

After completing her post doc she lived in Louisiana for a year in the middle of Cajun country, where her husband had a job as a helicopter mechanic. (Since he had followed her from Humboldt, to Florida, to British Columbia and then to Rochester it seemed only fair that he got to choose a destination this time.) Their daughter, Jenna Risa, was born in Louisiana, and was a real hit with her blond fuzz, since most of the Cajun babies had masses of black hair.

Dr. Brosing taught part time at Linfield College in McMinnville for a year before coming to Pacific, where she has been since 1987.

Dr. Brosing's scholarship centers around 3 themes; radiation effects, pedagogy, and a summer science camp for 7th & 8th grade girls.

Dr. Brosing is very active at the Reed College Nuclear Reactor, helping train reactor operators, doing research on basic nuclear properties of the reactor, and helping teach a Radiation Safety Officer course. She often has senior physics majors at Pacific work with her on research at the reactor.

Dr. Brosing has also attended many national and local conferences on physics pedagogy. She is an active participant in the Oregon Chapter of the American Association of Physics Teachers. She has helped the physics department at Pacific implement many of the new methods of teaching, which are based on extensive research into how students learn physics. She is passionate about Workshop Physics, the introductory calculus based physics course, and especially enjoys teaching that class.

From 1990 to 2000 Dr. Brosing was active in a summer science camp for 7th & 8th grade girls. She is hopeful about starting it up again, since her duties as Division Chair of the Natural Sciences have prevented her from running the camp the past 3 summers.
